Our Love Story

On a blog I follow here: (http://www.ahealthysliceoflife.com/2012/02/13/our-love-story/) she wrote a post about her love story. Seemed fitting for Valentines day being 2 days ago, I thought I'd copy her idea and add in Our Love Story to our blog!

1. How long have you and your significant other been together?

Garett & I have been together since February 6th, 2008. Four years this month. At times, I can't believe how fast time has gone by, other times it seems like it took us forever to get to this point in our lives/relationship. Its been a great 4 years though.

Our First Picture Together
 2. How did you meet? {What’s your “love” story?}

Oh Boy! Garett & I work at the same place, 2 months prior to us dating he came into our dispatch center and started cracking wise jokes about the TV show we had been watching (South Park). As I do with most people, I completely blew him off. I didn't want anything to do with him, he was a officer, talked to much, seemed to be all about himself... and honestly at 3 in the morning was just annoying to me. :) Later in that same week, he had sent me a message on our computers at work saying Hello. I think I ignored his first message, but the second and third I couldn't help but reply back. This continued for a few weeks, until he made me a bet (I don't remember what the bet was about) but he said if I lost the bet I had to come over and do his laundry (he was getting ready to leave for a trip to Lake Tahoe). I laughed and agreed to this silly bet, #1. I love laundry, so why would I care. #2. There's no way I'm going to lose a bet to this guy right?! Guess who ended up going over and doing laundry??! Yup! ME! In the end we pretty much just hung out and talked for hours... I think I folded his socks while he did the rest of the work, lol. When he came home from Lake Tahoe, he asked if I would like to go on a date with him, we both invited our best friends along (which made it a blind date for them). We had a great time, one of the best nights of my life.

3. If married, how long have you been married?

6 months. We were married, August 6th, 2011 exactly 3 1/2 years after we started dating.

4. Where did you get married? Big or small wedding?

We were married in Newport Beach. The wedding was tossed around from a very large wedding to a very small wedding, we ended up in the middle. The guest listed started at 250 people, at one point we went down to a guest list of 30 people and in the end had a guest list of 100 people, 80 of which showed up. It was perfect.

 5. Do you have any nick-names that you call one another? Do share!

We call each other 'Goose' or 'Goosebot' (long story)... the most. I'm sure we have 20 other nick-names, but their just random.

6. Name 3 things you love most about your honey:

This is hard to pick only 3 things...
#1 His sense of humor. He's always making me laugh, even when I'm upset or down about something. He's completely in sync with me.
#2 I love how he's always on the go with me. Garett loves to get out and see things, and go place's. We're always doing something or going somewhere and I love that!
#3 His love for me. Through everything we've been through, our ups and downs, he still has a strong, giving, willing, sensitive heart that is always reaching out to me!

7. Tell us how he proposed?

Read post below. ;)

8. Is he a flowers and teddy bear kind of guy for v-day, or strawberries, champagne, and rose petals?

I'm guessing a flowers kind of guy. They don't come very often maybe once or twice a year, but I sure love them when they come around. He always manages to pick out the perfect ones!

9. Are you a sunset dinner on the beach kind of girl, or pop a movie in and relax on the couch?

Definitely dinner on the beach. Which is one of our favorite things to do. Love So Cal!

10. Tell us one thing you’d like to do with your significant other one day. If you could do anything? Go anywhere?

There are a million place's we want to go, we plan to travel the whole world. One place Garett talks about often is going back to Australia, I've never been and he can't wait to take me.

11. Tell us what you plan on doing on did this Valentine’s Day.

We slept in (longer then planned), then headed out to Disneyland for a few hours, went through all the rides in California Adventure, and then headed back home. Due to traffic we were only home for 20 minutes, when we turned around and left again to head off to dinner with two of our friends. We had dinner at the Elephant bar, (it was delicious!) & then went to the movies and saw The Vow. It was a wonderful day.

12. Are you asking for anything this Valentine’s day?

Nope, we were both just happy being able to spend it together. It's very rare that we both have the day off.

 13. Give us one piece of advice of keeping a relationship strong and full of love.

I couldn't have said it better then Brittney. A song by Bruce Lee states it best.
"Be a best friend. Tell the truth. Overuse I love you. Go to work. Do your best. Don’t outsmart your commonsense. Never let your praying knees get lazy. And love like crazy."
One of my favorite songs!

Jan 31st 2011

... what an amazing day. I can't believe its been a year already, a year that my wonderful husband placed this ring on my finger and ask the best question a girl could ever be asked.

I remember us planning on going to Disneyland after I got off work that morning, I remember getting home and just being so tired I wanted to take a nap (later on I was thankful for that little nap I got). We woke up around 1pm and headed down to Disneyland.

We had previously discussed rings, which one's I really really like and wanted. Garett had told me that he already purchased the center diamond, but the band would just have to wait for a bit. I had thought about on the drive to Disneyland, that if he were to propose where would he do it?

He's so adventurous, maybe on the roller coaster? ... No he'd lose the ring.
Maybe on the pirates ride?... To dark and quiet.
Inbetween the two parks?... To many people, he'd be shy (yes, Garett can be shy, surprising I know).

I eventually gave up on the thought, thinking, nope he probably doesn't have the ring anyways. We spent a few hours there, time passed by, and nothing. Garett asked if I wanted to go to Fred's for dinner, I found it a little odd since it was another 45 mins from Disneyland, but it was one of our favorite place's to eat. By the time we made it out there it was about 5:30, the sun was going down already. One of our favorite things to do, is walk down Huntington Beach Pier. Being dark and cold I figured we'd skip it this time. Garett refused, he told me it wouldn't kill me to walk down the pier for 5 mins.

Halfway down the pier, he wants to stop and look at all the idiot surfer's in the cold cold water. I couldn't help but think, really? I'm cold, hungry, and tired... can we just move along? He pointed at the Ruby's restaurant at the end of the pier, the red lights from it, were glowing in the fog. I wont lie, it looked really neat. Garett wanted to walk down a little further to grab a picture of it. Of course when we got to the end he "forgot" his phone in the car, leaving me to take the picture. My first attempt, he bumped me and it came out blurry, he clams I made a rude remark to him like "HEY! Get our of my way!" I disagree. I went to take a second picture, and as I turned around, he was on one knee.

To this day, I wish I would've wrote down exactly all the sweet words he said. I don't remember all of it, I was too surprised that he actually had the ring, diamond set in the band, all in a box, and everything. It was gorgeous, more then I EVER expected.

We called both of our parent's right after! They were pretty darn excited. Then we headed into Fred's for dinner, the day was just wonderful, the lack of sleep didn't matter one bit after that moment. He says he didn't have any of it planned out, he originally though of doing it at Disneyland, but it just didn't feel right, and everything just fell into place perfectly after that. To this day, I'm amazed he pulled it off so smoothly.

So with that being said, a little over one year ago, we became engaged!

November & December 2011

These last two months, have seem to be quite busy. So much going on, between Family, Work, Home, & just Life! :)

A few days before Thanksgiving, we went to Disneyland with some friends. We took our Christmas card pictures in front of the Disney Tree. I just love all the big ornaments on the tree. I thought the pictures turned out quite well!

Thanksgiving Day, we went to my parents house up in Running Springs. Nick, Sandi & the girls joined the 4 of us. It was a wonderful evening with the whole family there. On the way up, we called Garett's parents, we always like to call & spend some time with them on the phone since we're unable to be with them during the holidays. We hope that next year they'll be much much closer to us & able to be with us on these special days!

Mom & I made Bean Soup in a Jar. It was easy to put together, I found the recipe online & mom was gracious enough to go and pick up all the supplies. I handed these out on Christmas, to our neighbors, my co-workers, and parents! I've been told the recipe is quite delicious, we haven yet to try it.

After our yummy dinner, which consisted of Turkey, Mash Tators, Green Beans with Bacon, & Stuffing, we all sat around and talked for a bit. I got a few pictures of Nick's Family & the girls on the fire place. We had Pumpkin Pie, from Marie Calendars & then headed home! It was a wonderful day, minus the fact that Balt beat San Fran in football.

The month of December, was quite crazy, with just work & the holidays alone! Mid December, we met my parents in Redlands, we drove out to Alto Loma, to see the homes with all the exciting Christmas lights (there were ton's this year, & they were all fabulous!). After the Christmas lights, we went to Vince's Spaghetti for dinner, yummy as usual. One of our family favorites.

Christmas was right around the corner. I'm proud to say, we got the house decorated, lights put up, & a tree all within the first week of December. It was wonderful to be able to enjoy the whole month with the house decorated. We went to a neighborhood Christmas party at Kyle & Nikki's, & had a lot of fun. Dinner, gift exchange, & games.

Thursday before Christmas, Garett & I spent the day together & opened our gifts that evening just the two of us. It was the last day we would be alone before Christmas, due to our work schedule. On Christmas eve, I went with my parents up to Nick's house. We had dinner, Sandi's cooking was amazing, opened gifts, & just hung out. It was a nice evening spending time with the family.

Melissa got a new bicycle from Grandma & Papa for Christmas. Kylie on the other hand didn't quite know what to do with all the gifts she got, she was confused about this wrapping paper stuff! It was wonderful to have Christmas Eve with them, & see the baby on her first Christmas, I still remember Melissa at that age!

Christmas Day, my parents came over for lunch with Garett & I, before he had to go to work. We had Tamales, Rice, & Chips with salsa & guacamole. After lunch we opened our gifts between the 4 of us. Although it was a quite afternoon it was wonderful to be able to spend it together.

We got mom Google TV she's been talking about it for months. Papa got the BBQ he wanted for his trailer. Garett & I got a new food processor/blender a new set of Tupperware & new tools. We've already started using everything!

After Garett headed off to work, we cleaned up, played with our gifts, & as soon as it got dark, my parents & I drove around our neighborhood & looked at all the Christmas lights, its a favorite for Mom & I! It was such a wonderful Christmas, turned out much better then we ever expected!

Can't wait to see what 2012 has in store for Garett and I.
Hope everyone had a wonderful and safe New Years!
